Overview

  • Ability Northants is a countywide disability charity, established for 30 years, which is funded by Northamptonshire County Council. Its mission statement is:
    ‘Ability Northants will strive to enable all disabled people, their carers and advocates to take a full and equal part in all spheres of society and take control of their own lives’.
  • The Carers Project has been a part of Ability Northants for about 12 years and aims to give carers and professionals information about services available to carers and disabled people.
  • Carers Voice is also managed by Ability Northants and is a lobbying group for carers and ex-carers. It provides a focus for carer’s issues and represents them on relevant strategy groups.
  • Equipment Northants was set up to provide information on equipment and to provide a facility for individuals to sell or dispose of unwanted second-hand disability equipment through the Second-hand Equipment Register.
  • Shopmobility is managed by Ability Northants and funded by Northampton Borough Council. It provides scooters and wheelchairs for hire in the town centre and also longer term wheelchair hire.
