Blue Badge

Blue BadgeThe Blue Badge scheme is administered by local authorities - details of the Northamptonshire scheme (address and phone numbers) can be found on our on-line Directory of Services.

Blue Badge application forms are available to download on the Northants County Council website or can be obtained by contacting Ability Northants.

Full details of the scheme can be obtained from the Direct Gov website.

The scheme is designed to help severely disabled people to travel independently. You will qualify automatically for a badge if you are over two years old and meet at least one of the following criteria

  • receive the Higher Rate of the Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance
  • are registered blind
  • receive a War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement

You may also be eligible if you are over two years old and either

  • have a permanent and substantial disability in both arms, and are unable or would find it very difficult to operate all or some types of parking meter

If you are the parent of a child who is less that two years old, you may apply for a badge for your child if they have a specific medical condition which means that they either:

  • must always be accompanied by bulky medical equipment which cannot be carried around without great difficulty
  • need to be kept near a vehicle at all times, so they can, if necessary, be treated in the vehicle, or quickly driven to a place where they can be treated, such as a hospital.
